The Thursday Game 5/17/18 – Making a Friend
Four skeletons jump out at us from trapped coffins, but we kill them easily. We enter a room with a silvery white light. Within are two altars to Bahamut, a dragon deity who is the patron of our Paladin, and many more skeletons! The Paladin prays to Bahamut and the skeletons disappear!
The Warlock finds a compartment in the north altar with six dragon statues of silver or maybe platinum. We each get one. Nothing is in the southern altar. There is a raised dais with a not at all creepy coffin on it. Suddenly, the lid explodes and appears the ghost of one Sir Keegan. Surprisingly, we try to talk to him before unceremoniously attacking. He chats us up and the Paladin tells him we are here on Bahamut’s behalf. We pass his religion skill challenge and he thinks we are cool.
Sir Keegan tells us about the “The Rift That Must Never Be Opened” upstairs on the fourth floor. As this is probably the entire point of the adventure, we ignore going there. The Paladin receives Acris, a very spiffy sword, from Keegan.
We wander into some terror traps, but ultimately kill two large and for small zombies. The Cleric had turned undead so two ran away in fear. We chase them down some stairs to see two hobgoblins in front of a well. We think we outsmart them and they say they are leading us to Kalarel who seems to be behind all these high jinks, but it’s a trap!
We enter a large room and the door slams shut behind us. A large statue is in the middle. When we go near it, the statue becomes animated and a large sword painfully slices the party members. Except for the halfling Cleric who is too short and watches the blade graze past. Two dragons statues try to blow us away. Four are cherubs holding vases which begin filling and quickly pouring out water. A door is at one end of the room, but an invisible wall stops us from leaving. The Warlock blasts the four vases which stops the flow of water, opens the door and we leave the room of death. Next is the Boss fight and we could have taken a long rest but someone opened the door to sneak a peek and alerted the bad guys to our presence. Next time we face the Boss and friends with very few spells left. Incoming TPK?
We gain additional experience for sweet talking Sir Keegan instead of earning his eternal wrath.
