The Thursday Game 6/18/20 – Ok, This Place is Crazypants!

Recap of June the 18th in the year of our Lord 2020 –

We experiment with the statue and discover the magnetic field only affects metal items directly in front. We ferry our metal armor and weapons to the south hall in our bag of holding. After rearming, we find a secret door to the room behind the crystal window. The Monk opens the door and sees the back of the head of one of six masked corpses that occupy alcoves around the room. Quickly, he grabs the mask and closes the door.

Thinking back to Acererak’s First Warning, “Don the mask or be seen,” he puts the mask on and sneaks into the room. The disk in the middle of the room has many eyes on creepy eyestalks scanning the room, but they do not notice the Monk. He retrieves masks off the other corpses and distributes them to the party members as we all enter the room. The Paladin pushes the stone lid off the sarcophagus. Inside, a ring sits on a dusty pile of bones. As he picks up the ring, the Monk becomes possessed by the spirit of Obo’laka, the trickster goddess.

Back in the hall, a second secret door leads downstairs. Your nosy Cleric cannot resist peeking down there. As her armor clanks loudly, she absolutely fails a stealth check. Five masked tomb dwarves look up at the intruder and attack. Clutching her holy symbol of Pelor in front of her, she commands the undead to run in fear of the Shining One. Four are turned. The rest of the party come to the rescue and the only dwarf attacking is slayed by the Warlock as he casts eldritch blast above the head of the halfling.

In the north of the room, a raised dais contains a weird iron maiden-like contraption. A tomb guardian steps out and attacks. Once vanquished, we notice that underneath his plate mail armor, the creature looks to be sewn together from various human parts. A counter contains a magical ghost lantern which the Cleric takes. The turned tomb dwarves are quickly dispatched.

Opening a door to the south, the party enter a spiral staircase. The Warlock sends his cat down a hallway to explore. With the coast seemingly clear, he opens the door. A masked corpse wearing a skull shaped amulet introduces himself as Withers and bids us welcome into his office. Around him scurry seven severed hands. A spell lifts the Warlock and carries him to a bench where several of the hands restrain him. As battle begins, the Warlock breaks free. The Paladin and Cleric rush in. Withers casts a spell and a wall of fire encircles the room damaging the three within while Withers has seemingly disappeared. The Warlock dimension doors with the Paladin to avoid more fire damage. After the fire dies, the Monk searches the office to find an arcane book and a translucent fist-sized stone. In the corner, a skeletal bird in a cage has survived and is singing a terrible song. We take everything.

We find a secret door to a hall leading east. In a small room, a carved stone font is filled with water. After investigating, the room seems unremarkable until we see an image form on the water and another Tomb Guardian wearing plate and a helm comes out of the font and attacks. After a brief scuffle, the Druid casts a thorn whip that slays the creature. We pause, but there is no rest.

Respectfully submitted,

Marigold Underbite, Cleric – May Pelor light your way!
