Escape at Last

The Saturday game, recapping 1/30/21 – We are standing across from the giant elephant statue with two tusks, one red and one green, the palms of its hands open in welcome. The Paladin sees that the head can screw off and he spins it off. The hollow within is filled with some items which includes a parchment that reads, “Ivory blade a crimson sword leads thee to the hidden hoard.” In the pool in front of the statue, tiles state “Tzolo shall vanquish her foes.” This phrase is also written on the pillars that led into the room. The Rogue notices five ivory tiles on the elephant’s lower body with the letters H, T, F, V, and S painted in red. When they are pushed in the right order of T S V H F, a secret door opens leading to a corridor. The Paladin notices the red tusk can also unscrew and does so. The tusk has a screw on the bottom as if it could fit into something else. When we unscrew the green tusk, a poisonous gas is emitted.

The corridor heading south leads to a room filled with fly-headed statues. In a sarcophagus sealed with red wax is the corpse of a human female dressed in red scale mail. She holds a mace and has a ring on her left hand. A green silk scarf has a necromantic rune on it. After messing with the statues, the woman cries out “Do not disturb the sleep of Tzolo,” and battle begins. After some nasty acid damage, the Rogue kills her. Within the sarcophagus is a blue steel box containing two potions and two scrolls. A secret compartment contains a pile of gems.

After a long rest, we double back to a wall before the elephant statue room. When the red tusk is screwed into a hole in the wall, we slide the block aside to reveal a corridor. This corridor leads to another room with a mahogany coffin on a red marble platform. Sliding the coffin off the platform reveals a compartment with a keyhole in the center. The rogue picks the lock and the block sinks down below the floor with enough space to fit two, maybe three people. The Rogue and Cleric jump into this space because a metal portcullis drops sealing the exit as a spiked wall starts moving to crush anyone not in the space below grade. When the wall finally passes, it reveals a passage leading west. The Rogue and the Cleric escape and join the party.

An archway has a phrase in Abyssal, “The reverent should proceed, the irreverent will die.” In this room, a mast less ship floats eight feet in the air over a pool about twenty-five feet deep and containing two fountains in the form of elephants. Finally, we have found the Uzrivoy! Examining the ship reveals doors to stairs and to a cabin which proves to be extradimensional spaces. The bottom of the pool contains a sarcophagus on which is written, “Death waits beneath this lid.” When we pull it off, an undead named Majalor emerges. After a long poison filled battle, the Paladin kills it.

One wall of the room is slightly different with depressions in the shape of the four symbols of the Mud Sorcerers. Placing the four jewels looted from the crocomummies depression opens a door behind which is a platinum statuette of an elephant. We enter a room filled with a black iron portal and a sarcophagus. As we enter, a whisper says, “Grave robbers! Tzolo will take her revenge and you will all perish.” A cloud of buzzing insects attacks the party. When the Rogue touches the sarcophagus, he is thrown ten feet back. A red banner falls to the floor and transforms into a two-headed snake. A relief carved on the sarcophagus lid comes alive and the snake disappears. We fight Tzolo’s Guardian and the Archer takes him down. Inside the sarcophagus is a mummified corpse. Under its head is a crystal orb and four footprints. The elephant statuette fits perfectly into the footprints and the true resting place of Tzolo is revealed at last. We find many treasures including our target, the Helm of Torm’s Sight which the Wizard wears.

We finally escape the tomb feeling more experienced. Back in Avernus, we reunite with Laeral Silverhand and discover our next task is to procure a vehicle and proceed to Fort Knucklebone.
