The Thursday Game 5/30/19 – Hrakhamar
Recap of May the 30th in the year of our Lord 2019 –
The road winds south into Ataaz Yklwazi, a canyon marked with black basaltic blades of volcanic origin. During the night, protected and unseen by the Druid’s magic, we notice the valley below us is filled with lights larger than torchlight moving three or four at a time.
Next morning, the party walks into a valley covered in ancient volcanic flows and lava tubes. Four albino dwarves approach us. The leader introduces herself as Sythia Vinecutter. Together, we discuss our search for Hrakhamar. She tells us it is her people’s ancestral home. She wishes to reclaim it as well; however, it has been overrun with fire newts. If our party were to help clear Hrakhamar, her people would reward us generously. She also tells us of a location in the nearby jungle where a flying boat has crashed. We are very interested in exploring this fixer-upper after we deal with Hrakhamar.
With her directions, we easily find the entrance. Inside are tracks for mine carts running throughout. To the north, we see light and hear a rumbling sound. A series of tunnels lead north and west around a lake of molten lava surrounded by mining equipment. Exploring west, the party finds a cell secured with a metal grate. We open it and inside is an albino dwarf named Laz Drumthunder. He states that he and his friend, Melachar Stormquist, were captured two days ago and have been tortured. He fears this has driven his friend insane. Upon opening the next cell, we cure Melachar’s madness. Both are too exhausted to make their own way out of the tunnels. We put them under guard together and the Cleric creates food and water for them. While they heal, those who need to take a long rest while others keep watch.
The Paladin hears several creatures making their way towards the party from the north. Seven mounted fire newt warriors and giant striders approach us over a trestle of mine cart tracks spanning the molten lake. The Warlock unleashes an eldritch blast to kill one. The Monk shadow steps to attack. The Paladin fumbles dropping his magic sword Acris into the lava! The Druid’s moonbeam destroys one. The Monk realizes the hammering to the north has stopped and says as much to the party. The combination of the Druid’s moonbeam and the Cleric’s spiritual weapon causes another to fall. The Warlock casts mage hand and retrieves Acris from the lava for the Paladin. Meanwhile, the Ranger has attempted to go around to attack in the rear by jumping over the lava river. Before she arrives, the last falls to the Cleric’s toll the dead. With her better view to the north, the Ranger sees other creatures in a workshop. Likely the sounds of battle have reached them, and we prepare for another encounter to happen immediately.
Respectfully submitted,
Marigold Underbite, Cleric – May Pelor light your way!
