The Thursday Game 7/25/19 – The Door is My Mortal Enemy
Recap of July the 25th in the year of our Lord 2019 –
After a long rest, the party continues exploring the mines of Hrakhamar. The east wall of the bellows room has a door. We try opening it, but it appears barricaded from the other side. With a mighty push, the Paladin opens it to find stockpiles of dwarven equipment. He grabs two hundred cross bolts. The Paladin pushes the door leading south. It opens with little effort as he tumbles into a room containing ten fire newts. Ambush!
The Paladin attacks but has no space to let other party members pass. Two newts flee to the east while another shuts the door! The Monk shoves the door open and shadow steps into the room. The Warlock, Druid and Ranger take up ranged positions in the bellows room from which they can see the battle through an opening in the wall. The Cleric tries to open the door. The Paladin helps, but the door holds fast! The Warlock eldritch blasts twice with push prompting two newts to exit south through a door. The Druid attempts to jump into the room but ends up dangling over a pit of lava.
The Cleric, surrounded by increasingly frustrated spirit guardians and an ineffective beer mug, tries to open the door and a fire newt closes it again! The Paladin tries to open the door only to injure himself!
The Druid shapeshifts into a Giant Wolf Spider and climbs into the room though the wall opening. The Warlock casts a spell and flies following her in. The Cleric pushes the door, but no, it is not opening! As the Paladin finally can open the door halfway, the Warlock kills the last newt with a push that blasts the Cleric back as she is about to enter the room. Pelor help me, I really hate this cursed door!
The Paladin opens the door leading south. As he enters the room filled with more fire newts, a bucket of molten silver falls on his head for thirty-six points of damage! He misty steps to the back of the room and lays hands on himself to heal. The Warlock uses his wand to entangle the newts in webbing, some of the webbing catching fire. The Monk shadow steps into the room. The Ranger fires her bow, but the arrow is caught by a web. The Warlock blasts one into webbing. The Ranger’s arrow kills a large fire newt while the Cleric’s spiritual weapon downs another. As the webbing burns away, the Cleric safely enters the room to unleash her spirit guardians! In rapid succession, the Paladin kills two, the Warlock blasts one newt into molten silver and the Ranger slices two with her swords. The Cleric’s spiritual weapon and spirit guardians finish the final two; redemption for besting her worst enemy this session, a door.
The party takes a short rest long enough to regain health through hit dice. At least four newts are probably still hidden in this maze of mines.
