The Thursday Game 9/19/19 – Gotta Be Stealthier Than That!
Recap of September the 19th in the year of our Lord 2019 –
After a long rest, we explore what we hope is the last section of the Hrakhamar mines. The party approaches the door to the east with caution. The Warlock casts a spectral mage hand to open it. Beyond is a bridge leading across a lake of lava in which a few islands of stone arise. But no fire newts, at least that we can see. At the end of the bridge is another door. The cavern appears to be empty, but we are wary of traps. The Warlock casts an illusion of a human walking across the bridge; nothing happens. He sends his cat familiar across the bridge; nothing. As soon as the Ranger begins walking across, rumbles from the north sound as a dragon formed of rock and lava rises from the lake!
Immediately, the Warlock casts fly and heads to check the far door. The dragon swims through the lava and nearly kills the Warlock with one fiery bite. The Ranger lets loose an arrow while the Monk teleports to a rocky island next to the dragon and begins hitting it. The Warlock tries to open the door, but it seems to be blocked
The Druid casts faerie fire on the dragon so the Ranger has advantage and hits for sixty-five while bellowing her war cry, “Suck it Dragon!” The Monk busts open the door and begins clearing the debris. As the party retreats through the door, everyone gets a last attack. As the dragon begins to breathe fire, the Warlock kills him with a final Shatter. Rock and lava explode in bursts of fire and tumble into the lake. As all is momentarily quiet, we hurry out of the chamber before anything else emerges from the lava.
A slightly parted door leads to another room where two large chests appear. After searching for traps, we open them to reveal stacks of iron and adamantine ingots along with a variety of weapons. We, of course, help ourselves. I whisper a thankful prayer to Pelor for our safe delivery and his bounty. Leading up out of the room is a chimney formation large enough for fire newts to scramble out. This must have been their final escape route as we harried them through Hrakhamar. Satisfied that we have purged the mines, we settle for a long rest, happy that we can soon tell the albino dwarves that their ancestral home is once again safe. Also, we look back on this experience and feel even more powerful after defeating the fire newts of Hrakhamar.
Respectfully submitted,
Marigold Underbite, Cleric – May Pelor light your way!
